A career military man, Thomas Lincoln Casey studied engineering at West Point and rose through the ranks to Brigadier General. Before and during the Civil War, he worked on the design of forts. In the 1870s, he was responsible for shoring up and completing the Washington Monument. In 1855 he accepted responsibility for Casey Farm, ensuring that it would remain intact for future generations.
