Casey Farm

Best Parlor Door

The only interior photograph that Harry took in this series shows the front hall of the farm house looking toward the best parlor door, now a room for children’s programs. On the hall table in the 1870s are some lovely-looking grapes. Perhaps Sadie Gould, the tenant farmer, made some jam later that week? Wild grapes still grow on the farm today. The décor of the entry hall may have changed, but not the bullet hole in the door dating from a Revolutionary War skirmish in 1777.
