Apple Orchards
Harry could have asked Thomas and Sarah Gould, their youngest daughter Sadie, and his brother Ned to pose in any one of the three apple orchards at Casey Farm. The earliest mention of apple trees on the farm was an orchard planted “behind the house” for Silas Casey in the late eighteenth century. Because none remain intact today, we can only guess from records that these venerable trees were planted in the north fields or on the east slope toward Narragansett Bay where one or two old trees remain. In the 1990s and early 2000s heirloom variety apple and pear trees were planted in the north fields of the farm, where site manager Jane Hennedy (standing) and festival and retail coordinator Marissa Dufault (seated) posed in 2020.
